About Lynne

Lynne EricksonLynne is the middle of three sisters. She graduated from Regis College in 1997 with a degree in chemistry.

After college, Lynne spent time working in a small lab where she first learned the true meaning of things like “corporate loyalty” and “job security.”  After four years at the lab, Lynne watched as the owners of the company hired a “consultant” to evaluate things.

This consultant quickly turned everything upside down. New positions were unexpectedly created, and then terminated. Working conditions became unbearable and Lynne watched as coworkers and friends either left the company or were unexpectedly let go. Things progressed to the point where the one man who had been at the lab the longest, literally from the very beginning, was given his walking papers. An individual who had shaped and molded the company from it’s inception, who had been a friend to all and mentor to many of his coworkers, suddenly lost his job simply because someone else could be hired to work for less.

It was all about the numbers.

This ultimately left Lynne as one of the last remaining members of the original team, left to work in a lab with inexperienced individuals who were a danger to work with in a laboratory setting. These unsafe conditions, combined with the fact that she was expected to absorb the workload of all the coworkers who had been let go (without an increase in pay) ultimately proved to her that it was time to move on.

Lynne had also been working part-time as a bartender, and when she left the lab this became her full-time occupation. In 2002, Chad began working at the same restaurant where Lynne was working and the rest, as they say, is history.

Lynne eventually left her bartending position in 2004.  From there she transitioned through several different jobs, starting as a manager at a spa for a friend, and then helping run a pizzeria.

Lynne had always known that she wanted more independence, and since she had always had an interest in real estate, she obtained her real estate license.  Working as a real estate agent was a welcome change for Lynne. It allowed her to pursue something she was interested in and passionate about, while allowing her more control over her schedule. She also enjoyed that her income was more closely tied to her own efforts, rather than leaving it up to someone else. During this time, Lynne also worked part time with her younger sister, Sherrill, who is a real estate attorney. Additionally, Lynne (and Chad) helped at her father’s accounting firm during the tax season.

When the real estate market began it’s downward turn, Lynne returned to the food service industry (which Chad was still involved in) to help supplement their income.

It was from here that they finally realized their dream of starting their own business, pursuing financial independence, and helping others to do the same.

About Chad

Chad Chadbourne

Chad is the oldest of two children (both boys) by ten years.

Chad met Lynne in 2002 while working in a restaurant and attending a local community college. He actually never completed his degree – in large part because he did not have a clear, long term occupation in mind.

After giving up on formal education, Chad continued to work with Lynne until she moved on to pursue other avenues (see above). During this time Chad attempted to find his niche, working various part time jobs, looking for something that “fit.”

He loaded trucks for a shipping company, but found that the odd hours and lack of control and greater responsibility for his own results didn’t fit his long term goals. He took a job as a sales associate for an electronics store, but quickly discovered that the retail industry didn’t provide much opportunity to help others. Eventually, Chad wound up taking a job working tech support for a small software company, but being confined to a desk for hours on end left him dissatisfied and wanting more.

All of this was in addition to the time spent helping at Lynne’s father’s office during the tax season.

Ultimately, Chad returned his focus to working full time in the food service industry where Lynne eventually rejoined him until they started their own business.

The Happy Couple

wedding-pictures-184-resized-squareLynne and Chad met in October 2002 when working together at a restaurant. Lynne was a bartender and Chad was the world’s greatest busboy, and he later became a waiter.

They began dating on New Year’s Eve of 2002. They were married on October 8, 2006 at Wynn Las Vegas with about 30 of their family members and closest friends in attendance. About a month before flying out to Las Vegas for the wedding, Lynne’s younger sister Sherrill surprised them with a new addition to their family: a four pound puppy which they named Wynnie. A couple of weeks later they also picked up Wynnie’s sister (from the same litter) and named her Vega.

About a year and a half before they were married, April 29, 2005 to be exact, the couple went through an unpleasant (but pivotal) event. Lynne was at home and Chad was closing the restaurant, getting home around 1 AM. Lynne was in bed, but not feeling well… she was experiencing intense heartburn and abdominal pain. They went to sleep hoping she would feel better in the morning. At 3 AM Lynne woke up, feeling worse, and Chad drove her to the emergency room.

After a few hours of superficial tests, Lynne was told that they weren’t sure what was causing her so much pain, and she should follow up with her primary physician. After a few more weeks of tests, Lynne was told she had Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and handed a prescription. This was a fancy way of saying “You have heartburn. Take this pill to control your stomach acid.”

Lynne spent the next two years taking these pills to control her reflux, only to find that a side effect of the pills was adbominal pain. For two years she took a pill to treat one symptom, only to find herself suffering from another (sometimes more painful) symptom instead.

This was a defining event for Lynne. She sought out alternative, natural care by visiting a naturopathic doctor. This doctor sat with Lynne for an hour and listened to her story, asked questions and got the full picture. She then suggested Lynne be tested for food allergies/intolerances, as that could have been the root cause of the original heartburn over two years before.

After two years of pain and discomfort, Lynne’s problems were solved by a one hour conversation and a 2 minute test.

She is allergic to soy. If that doesn’t sound like a big deal, take a look at a few ingredient lists next time you are at the grocery store… it’s everywhere. Lynne was eating something her body couldn’t tolerate, and as soon as she eliminated it from her diet, she was fine. By searching for the cause of her problem, rather than just treating the symptom with a drug, Lynne was able to drastically improve her life.

This is in large part what led Lynne and Chad to explore more natural alternatives to nutrition, health and wellness. To educating themselves and helping others to do the same.

Lynne and Chad had always known they wanted more out of their life together… more than going to work every day, living by someone else’s schedule and having to spend much of their time apart. They wanted time for themselves, each other and their family. After a lot of research and searching, they started their own online business in 2008, and have never looked back. They now strive to help others do the same.

About Wynnie and Vega

Wynnie (left) and Vega (right) when they were still babiesWynnie and Vega are sisters (really, they were born in the same litter, even though they don’t look like it) and best friends. Wynnie joined Lynne and Chad’s family in 2006, about a month before the couple was married. She was actually a surprise gift from Lynne’s younger sister.

A couple of weeks later, Lynne’s sister received a phone call saying that Wynnie’s sister was available. Lynne and Chad took Wynnie back to the house she had been born in, where she was reunited with her long lost sister, and they hit it off right away. Lynne and Chad knew their family needed to grow a bit more, so they brought home their second “daughter” and named her Vega.

The girls are an adorable chihuahua, brittany spaniel and terrier mix, weighing in at about 25 pounds combined. The small size doesn’t stop them though, they are more than enough to keep Lynne and Chad occupied. The names “Wynnie” and “Vega” come from Wynn Las Vegas, where Lynne and Chad got married on October 8, 2006.

Vega is obsessed with cuddling, snuggling and any other form of physical contact. She sleeps under the covers in the warmest spot she can find, even in the middle of summer. Vega is a bit of a drama queen and when something isn’t the way she wants it, she will usually sit in the middle of the room, hang her head and tremble pitifully until someone gives her the attention she wants. (Anyone else with a chihuahua knows the tremble we are talking about very well).

Wynnie is a little more independent than her sister, and always, always has to have the last word. Anytime she is scolded for something, or told to stop barking at the window she waits until your back is turned and lets out a small indignant “woof” under her breath. Wynnie also loves attention, but will occasionally want a little space. If you rub her belly, she’ll love you forever.

All and all, they basically just love to be close to Lynne and Chad. As this description is being typed, Wynnie is asleep to Chad’s right, while Vega is curled up under a blanket between his feet.

The reason Wynnie and Vega have their own section on this page, is because they are integral to everything Lynne and Chad do. They are important members of the family and are one of the biggest “why’s” that drive Lynne and Chad. Having to put the girls in a crate, leave them alone for hours on end day after day, just wasn’t acceptable. Wynnie and Vega love spending time together, sitting, playing and sleeping with the people they love, so Lynne and Chad do anything and everything in their power to increase the amount of time they can spend with their “girls.”
